Can I Touch That Surface?

Join us as we address concerns about cleanliness in our work spaces. Many are aware of approved cleaning protocols, but new questions arise daily about antimicrobial products and UV light sterilization. As we become more aware of viral transmission, our instincts might encourage us to explore every strategy and product that will disinfect the surfaces we touch every day. This session seeks to identify best practices for ensuring that our shared office surfaces do not become a source for viral transmission, while encouraging caution in rapid adoption of untested products and procedures.

What you'll learn

With new heightened awareness, a post-pandemic response would be to explore any and all new avenues for ensuring a clean – almost sterile – environment. But proceed with caution! Recent work conducted by Perkins and Will, in collaboration with Healthy Building Network (HBN), a non-profit focused on chemical hazards in buildings, uncovered that there is no evidence that using interior products and finishes incorporating antimicrobial additives result in healthier occupants.

But is surface transmission control possible?

This presentation aims to outline CDC guidelines and other best practices for how to ensure that surfaces and common items within the work environment do not become virus and disease transmitters.

Key takeaways:

•

Outline CDC guidelines and other best practices for how to ensure that surfaces and common items within the work environment do not become virus and disease transmitters.

•

Chemical Hazards and their use in commercial interior environments.

•

Cleaning protocols to ensure a healthy work environment

•

How topical chemical applications on high touch surfaces can provide false assurance about disease spread and may aggrivate other health conditions.
