As Nature Intended?

Leapfrogging the Bottleneck

The climate emergency is evidence of the inability of the current human civilization to live in balance with nature. There is wide agreement that nature-based solutions have a huge role to play in reversing environmental degradation to restoring the world’s hospitality to species. How do we go beyond that and make our systems gain the profound intelligence of regenerative natural systems?

Join us for the final event in our four part webinar series which examines how the built environment industry can tackle climate change, around four critical topics: retrofit, finance, technology, and nature based solutions.

What you'll learn

Working remotely has left many of us feeling isolated. Our research shows that focus and solitary task efficiency are up, but feelings of connection and camaraderie are down. Because of this paradigm shift, we see the workplace evolving to become a destination: a beacon for an organization’s brand, a cultural anchor, a recruitment stage, and a hub that supports connection and mentorship. The shape, size, and feel of the workplace may change—but its role will remain vital to an organization's success.

How do we create connection, attraction, and hospitality in our office environments?
We don't subscribe to one solution for a remote, hybrid, dynamic, or anchored work model. We embrace the need to explore, vet, and iterate ideas to arrive at strategies and solutions tailored to you. In this session, we will build upon Workplace Futures Part I, proposing strategies to support workplace’s evolution.

Key takeaways:

•

Explore ways in which we can create a new relationship with nature that restores the balance that has been lost.

•

Discover ways in which we can bring more greenery into cities, rewild landscapes, and integrate urban agriculture to increase health and well-being while also mitigating climate change.

•

Learn from natural systems to create an inherently regenerative economy with zero waste.

Beyond Zero

The impact of climate change—including extreme heat, severe storms, sea rise, pollution and drought—is being felt globally. To protect our planet, and meet government targets, we must act now. The architecture and construction industry must set bold, ambitious, and achievable targets to reduce our environmental impact. These goals must be underpinned by science, creativity, and new approaches to design.

This series brings together panelists with diverse perspectives and insights—architects, economists, researchers, academics, and governmental advocates—to discuss the challenges we face and potential solutions that we can turn to.

Better Than Before:
The future is retrofit

OCTOBER 13TH, 5:00PM - 6:00 PM BST

Eighty percent of the built environment that will exist in 2050 is already constructed. Adequately increasing the energy performance of this stock is a far greater challenge on every count than designing and constructing new buildings. However, there is no credible roadmap for doing this. How are we going to move this mountain?

Today, achieving net-zero on new build gets the most attention. In this session, we will shift our focus to an alternate approach that leads to a greater impact on the broader economy: retrofit.

Tick Tock: Can tech save us, before time runs out?

NOVEMBER 18TH, 5:00PM - 6:00 PM BST

What if we discovered how to have abundant clean power? What if we found a way to extract carbon from the air? What if we increased the capacity of carbon sinks? What if we eliminated all waste and were able to re-use, re-purpose, and recycle everything? We will explore the likelihood of a breakthrough in the practical application of technologies that could undo the unintended consequences of past tech.

Net-Zero - Net Worth: More a finance than a design challenge?

Finance is a primary instrument that enables markets to invest in the near-term to achieve long-term returns and other benefits. It is key to the necessary and capital-intensive action towards mitigating climate instability. How are banks, insurers, and the finance sector stepping up? How can government interventions help markets consider long-term consequences of decisions and choices—or externalities—that are now increasingly the realities for millions of people around the world?

We must be agents for change, and take an inclusive approach to engage with our clients, partners, supply chain, and peers, to see how, together, we can design beyond net-zero.
